You are never too old to stop and look both ways before crossing the street.  I think this is an important point that many people forget once they are no longer children.  I have always insisted that Winnie stops & sits before we cross the street no matter if there is traffic or if we have a green light to cross.  Some might think this is silly, but by conditioning my dog to stop & sit before proceeding across a street (and believe me, after doing this for 2 years she knows where the sidewalk ends and the street begins) I have taught her to pause before walking into a potentially dangerous situation for her which she has no perception of.  She knows it’s safe to cross when I give her release command “ok.”  I’d much rather take a moment for both of our sakes to pause at the edge of the road than risk Winnie darting out into oncoming traffic.

New on WTZT - Winnie’s Puppyhood: Homecoming, 10 - 12 Weeks

This next installment of the series dedicated to Winnie’s Puppyhood shows her first 2 weeks at home, from ages 10 - 12 week.  I took so many clips & photos of Winnie during this time (and continue to do so, really!), I thought it would be fun to share some of them with you.  I decided to just keep it to this 2 weeks period so that the video wasn’t too long.  I’m not sire if I’ll be able to post next week as we’ll be on vacation.  If not, I’ll definitely be back with a new weekly video when I return the following week.  I hope you enjoy footage of my little fluff ball!  Thanks for watching & subscribing :)

Winnie helps me stay in the moment.  It’s important to take time to stop & smell the roses…even if they’re actually paper.

Winnie is very good about grooming time.  She stays perfectly still for the most part and lets me place her in any which way I need to groom her.  When I was posting the grooming series on her YouTube channel I got a lot of comments regarding how well trained she is for grooming and asking how I get her to lay so still.  I honestly think consistency and positive reinforcement are the keys to any kind of training.  Having groomed her every single day since she was 12 weeks old helps, too.  She knows exactly what to expect, including her special post-grooming treat reward.  If you are patient, consistent, and gently firm & clear in your intentions to your dog, they will learn very quickly what it is you expect from them.

Sleepy hairball…
With all of that hair you’d really think Winnie is 3 times bigger than her actual size.  I promise she only weighs 10 pounds.  That girl really is 75% hair!

Winnie is often very bored with how I choose to spend my days during the times that aren’t specifically devoted to her.  She’ll often roll over and stretch out in the hopes that I’ll notice, drop whatever nonsense I’m doing, & spend my time more wisely by giving her a much deserved belly rub. She doesn’t have to make a peep, I somehow just know when she does this.  It really works much more often than not.  Sly girl…

I posted a very smilier photo just a few weeks ago with Winnie with her hair clip in just like this, post-grooming, pre-bath…well, in this one her “80’s side ponytail” is flipped to the other side but she’s still making her defiant “I don’t need no stinkin’ bath!” face.  I can’t resist…

New at WTZT - Winnie’s Puppyhood: Life at the Breeder, 0 - 10 Weeks

After receiving some requests I decided to start a new series showcasing the footage I have from Winnie’s Puppyhood.  This first video is a collection of clips from when I visited Winnie & her litter mates while she still lived with the breeder. Check back next week for a look at Winnie first month or so at home with us.  Thanks for watching :)
